38 Tazewell County Career and Technical Center (TCCTC) students qualified at the District 8 SkillsUSA competitions and will be attending the state SkillsUSA competitions in Roanoke, Virginia this year. Competitions were held at the Tazewell County Career and Technical Center in Tazewell, Virginia, and the Washington County Career and Technical Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia. Tazewell County students and Bland County students who attend Tazewell County Career and Technical Center competed against students from Wythe, Smyth, Carroll, Galax, Grayson, and Washington Counties as well as students attending Virginia High School located in the city of Bristol, Virginia.

Tazewell County Career and Technical Center walked away with 26 first-place winners. Upon hearing this news, Lee Salyers, CTE Director and Principal of Tazewell County Career and Technical Center said, “ It is thrilling to see our students excel in local competitions. It will be even more exhilarating witnessing their participation in the state leadership conference, where they compete against the best in the Commonwealth. I observe them gaining immense confidence, and seeing their growth as students is inspiring. Each instructor inspires a work ethic that is necessary to be successful in a given trade and challenges those who desire to perform in competition to apply their learned skills at industry-level standards. This competition is a good indicator of how ambitious the students of TCCTC are to succeed. Many in the Tazewell County communities and schools are eager for what awaits these students in their next round of competition and what the future holds for them in their chosen fields of work,” said Sarah Cooke, TCCTC SkillsUSA Lead Advisor.
