It’s that time of year again when parents start thinking about what their kids need to return to school … supplies, wellness visits, vaccinations, dental checkups and more. Virginia Medicaid is coordinating with schools throughout the state to spread the word about free health insurance that is available for kids called FAMIS, or Family Access to Medical Insurance Security plan. A family of four can make as much as $61,500 and qualify for coverage. The services available to children are comprehensive and include:
Annual well checkups for babies, kids and teens
Prescription drugs
Shots
Doctor visits
Dental care
Mental health care
ER care
Vision care and glasses
Tests and x-rays
Hospital stays
And much more
If you know someone who could benefit from these services, encourage them to visit commonhelp.virginia.gov to apply, or coverva.dmas.virginia.gov for more information. They can also text SCHOOL to 268782 to sign up for updates.
Have you scheduled your child's back to school vaccinations? If not, Tazewell County Health Department can help you out. Use the information on the flyer to schedule your appointment.
All Tazewell County Public Schools offices & schools will be closed on Monday (July 3rd) and Tuesday (July 4th)!
Update from Virginia Medicaid:
In March 2023, Virginia Medicaid returned to its normal renewal operations and started reviewing members’ health coverage to make sure they still qualify. The renewal process was paused during the pandemic; therefore, some members may be unfamiliar with this process. DMAS recently created a renewal calendar that outlines whose renewals will begin each month over the next year. Because the process takes 12 months to renew everyone, it may take several months before members hear from us. Members need to make sure their contact information is current, check their mail for their renewal application, and return any paperwork as soon as possible. Visit the Cover Virginia website to find more information about the return to normal enrollment process. If you don’t know your renewal date, you can call your local Department of Social Services (https://www.dss.virginia.gov/localagency/index.cgi), or Cover Virginia (1-855-242-8282) (TTY: 1-888-221-1590).
